            <description>1.  Inserts should be the size of the thickness of your core.  (6-7mm at the cores thickest part) 

2.  Lots of people laminate strips of Bamboo flooring for cores.  It will be to thick of course so you will need to plan it to the right thickness.  You can even use a router to do this, but you'll need to make a bridge and a template to profile it to the right thickness.
